| King George FC Youth Committee build on success |
 |
Members of the King George Football Club Youth Committee welcomed MP Grant Shapps back to their ground recently to update him on their season's progress and to secure his backing for a further financial appeal.
The inaugural 2009 season has kicked off well for the new Club with the Youth teams excelling at home and away.
Now Chairman of the Youth Committee Aaron Hemsley wants to ensure that the club has even more appeal to youngsters by securing a variety of items including a pool table and football training kit to help the club go from strength to strength.
Grant met with the members of the Youth Committee to discuss their appeal and offered his backing saying, "What the Youth Committee are doing at King George V Playing Fields is really important for the whole community. They are helping to ensure that KGFC has something to offer even for those who just come to support rather than necessarily playing in a team. I was really very impressed with their determination to make this a truly great Club with facilities to match."
Aaron added, "It's really great to have the support of our MP and community. We never expected things to take off so fast, but we've quickly recognised that in order to ensure that everyone can be accommodated we need to expand our facilities and that's why we've launched this latest appeal."
The necessary equipment adds up to just under £2,000 and the club is hopeful that it will get a further contribution through funds held by the local councillors.

KGFC Awarded Charter Standard |
|
King George Football Club is proud to announce that on the 29th October 2009 we officially became an FA Charter Standard Club. This award has taken just 6 months to achieve and just goes to re-iterate the fantastic commitment that our new club has shown to providing the best possible football opportunities for all.
Charter Standard is recognised as a kite mark within Grassroots Football and is regarded as a statement of quality. The FA have set down criteria which needs to be met by clubs in order for them to be recognised as an FA Charter Standard Club.
Obtaining the mark shows that we are focused on implementing the FA's best practices and policies in young player development and opens the door to further support that the club will need as it continues to grow.
We would like to thank all of our volunteers who have worked tirelessly to get this club up and running and who give up their free time, week in and week out, to give local children the chance to play the game they love. A big thanks also goes out to the 200 players and their parents who have shown faith in KGFC and represent the club fantastically each week. |

King George FC at the Welwyn Pegasus Tournament |
|
The weekend of the 5th/6th September saw a number of King George teams take part in the annual Welwyn Pegasus pre-season tournament held at Monks Walk School.
Bearing in mind that most of the teams are brand new, and many players were playing together for the first time, the club actually acheived to get into 2 Semi Finals and 2 Quarter Finals in a number of age groups.
This was a fantastic achievement and re-inforces the excellent work being done by our dedicated volunteer coaches and the commitment shown by all of our young players.
Thanks go out to the U9 Vipers, U10 Vipers, U11 Vipers, U12 Vipers and U14 Vipers for representing the club in a very professional manner and to all at Welwyn Pegasus FC for their hospitality. |

KGFC at Luton Town vs Rochdale |
|
April 25th 2009 saw Luton Town FC play their last home game in the Football League before relegation to the Blue Square Premier League. A group of 25 King George FC managers, coaches, players, and members were invited by Luton to attend the game vs Rochdale as their guests and to have a group photo taken on the Kenilworth Road pitch at half time.
Though the game was a bit lacklustre, the experience was fantastic for the young players to walk out in front of a crowd of thousands. Thanks to Dan and all at LTFC for their hospitality. |

MP champions support for fledging King George FC |
|
MP for Welwyn Hatfield, Grant Shapps, has pledged his full support for getting youngsters who live in the vicinity of King George V Playing Fields involved in a newly formed local Football Club
King George Football Club in Welwyn Garden City has seen an explosion of youngsters signing up to the club in this its first year and it now boasts more than 11 teams who will play in the Mid-Herts Rural Minors League with over 250 passionate young members registering an interest.
Now the fledging club needs support from the community and the local MP has pledged to support their cause.

Grant said: “There's a tremendous opportunity to get a large number of youngsters involved in a great new football club and it almost seems strange that KGV hasn't previously boasted a club of its own. What is needed now is the backing of the whole community and I know that the football club are on the lookout for much-needed funds and volunteer coaches in order to ensure that they can continue to prosper and grow."
Faced with the amazing response from the community, the club which is supported mostly through the generosity of parents needs funding for more equipment and, in particular, a new kitchen to cater for its ever-growing membership.
Anyone interested in providing support to the new football club should contact Martin Williams by email on
